Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers in the community greatly support the YMCA. Volunteers play an active role on the Board of Management, in committees and fundraising, as coaches, referees, literacy tutors and office support.If you are interested in becoming a Palomar Family YMCA Adult Volunteer, click on any of the Volunteer positions below. Adult Volunteer Opportunities
Do you have a special talent you'd like to share with the YMCA? Do you want to give back to your community? Are you looking for a way to help others? We have a variety of opportunities available for people willing to volunteer their time to make a difference in the lives of others.
Volunteer Procedure
- Choose a volunteer opportunity
- Contact Christy Wagnon at cwagnon@ymca.org for necessary paperwork
- Complete application, background screening, and other necessary paperwork
- Complete online child abuse prevention training
- Make an appointment to finalize paperwork and set up your volunteer schedule

| Childwatch | Assist childwatch staff with children 8 weeks-12 years old while parents utilize YMCA facilities | 1 four hour shift 1x per week 3 month commitment |
| Parent Night Out | Assist gymnastics staff on Friday nights by helping chaperone children ages 3-12 in arts and crafts, games, and on gymnastics equipment. No gymnastics experience necessary. | 1 Friday night 1x per month 6pm-10pm 3 month minimum |
| Teen Center Newsletter | Edit and create monthly newsletter for teen center. Utilize high school students to help write articles/columns and for distribution. | Varies- about 10 hours per month; 4 month commitment |
| Teen Center Tutoring | Assist middle and high school students with a variety of homework and projects in a variety of subjects. | 1 hour 1x per week 3 month commitment |
| Front Desk/ Admin Assistant | Assist front desk and admin staff with duties such as filing, making copies, answering phones, and general office duties | Varies |
| Youth and Government Advisor | Assist high school students at weekly meetings where they discuss current events, work on public speaking, debating, bill writing. SEE TEEN PAGE FOR ENTIRE LIST OF DATES | Tuesday 6:30-8:30pm 5 weekend conferences Sept-February |
| Generation Next Advisor | Assist middle and high school students as they participate in a variety of community service activities. | 1 hour 1x per week 1 Saturday project 2 month commitment |
| Homework Helper | Assist elementary school students with reading and other homework help | 2 hours 1 day per week 3 month commitment |
| Teen Leadership Conference | Chaperone high school students at a weekend leadership conference. Assist advisors in activity set up, monitoring workshops, and night time duties | weekend of October 8-10, 2010 (whole weekend) |
| Annual Support Campaign | Assist the YMCA in raising over $350,000 so that we are able to provide scholarships for all of our programs. Trainings in January, fundraising and fundraising events in February. | varies weekly dinners minimum financial goal |

Youth Volunteer Opportunities (ages 14-17)
For middle and high school students (minimum age 14) looking for community service hours for school or clubs.
Generation Next
Generation Next is a club for middle and high school students. Students will meet one day a week to discuss and plan monthly volunteer opportunities. Volunteer projects may include: park clean up, beach clean up, canned food drive, recycling, etc. A great way for your teen to make new friends and make a difference in their community.

Volunteer Procedure

| Big Buddy/ Little Buddy | Middle/high school student will be paired up with an elementary school student to help with reading and other homework assignments and projects at a local elementary school. | 2 hour shift 1x per week Semester long commitment |
| Gymnastics Assistant | Assist gymnastics instructors in teaching a class. Must have gymnastics experience. If interested in one day teaching, this is a great way to learn the basic skills needed to teach gymnastics | 1 class 1x per week one month minimum |
| Parent Night Out | Assist gymnastics instructors in chaperoning children ages 3-12 years old. Will be placed with students at least 2 years younger. | Friday night 6-10pm |
