We focus our work in three key areas, because nurturing the potential of kids, helping people live healthier, and supporting our neighbors are fundamental to strengthening communities.
Where children learn, grow, and develop to their fullest potential!
There are some exciting changes happening at Appleby Preschool. We have completed the renovation of our school which includes new furniture and new flooring throughout the entire preschool. We have also selected a new creative curriculum in which we believe will help our children grow and develop a stronger foundation for Spiritual growth and social skills. Here are some of the skills your child will acquire through the creative curriculum program:
- Literacy, increased vocabulary and language skills
- Mathematics, beginning understanding of numbers concepts
- Science, becoming knowledgeable of physical and life science
- Social Studies, understanding people and the world around us
- Arts, gaining knowledge of music concepts, drama and visual arts skills
Our qualified staff who implement the early childhood curriculum program have received training in how all the pieces of the curriculum fit together. Join now to be a part of something big!

YMCA Character Development
The Palomar Family YMCA participates in the Character Development program, which focuses on four core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Learning each of these values is vital to the growth and development of children. These values will be incorporated into various planned activities, as well as using teachable moments that the children so often provide.

The YMCA understands that each child is unique and has his or her own rate of development. Our programs provide opportunities and experiences that stimulate each child’s physical, social, intellectual and emotional development in an asset rich environment. Programs are carefully designed to meet the developmental and individual needs of children ages 2 to 5 participating in the program. Programs focus on social development and character development for every child. There are frequent and positive opportunities for parents to be involved.
The YMCA provides a safe environment with structured and self-select activities appropriate to preschool settings. Children are allowed to learn through play, both individually and in groups. Every program strives to facilitate the development of a positive set of values in each child that will carry with them through life; to teach each child to relate to others in a way that is comfortable, respectful and reflects appreciation for individual differences; and to develop a positive self-image through a variety of experiences… all in a fun, supportive, and safe environment.
As a member of the YMCA of San Diego County Child Development Program Team, each YMCA staff member accepts the responsibility of ensuring the safety of every child; of respecting the values and diversity each family holds; of caring for each child with warmth and compassion; and always demonstrating honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.
